Himal was born into early childhood education. His mother ran a service out of the family home, then bought a 28-place preschool in Ermington, in Sydney's west. He is a fourth-generation educator and describes himself as an early years tragic. Himal studied science and law at the University of Sydney, then led the early education organisation Being for six years. He now builds software for educators.
